Lots of different versions of maps out there for the Coopers Rock State Forest.
Right now, this is the one I like best. Not all the trails are named, but we still know what they are.
Thank you Steve Harouff.

Got this from the WV Forestery site pertaining to Coopers Rock-

Also please keep in mind-
We simply cannot pre-mark the course. It gets torn down and then all is for naught. We mark it Saturday afternoon and we still have to review parts of it and make things right. Unfortunately it's just the way it is and has been. Thank you for your patience and consideration.

Okay here's the Coops Beginner/1st loop as it stands today-
Coops Beginner Loop
Start at the same area as before-
Dive into the woods like we're going to the Day Use Parking Lot, but instead of following the Road Side Trail to the left, we turn right, cross the road and then hit the Road Side Trail proper. This is just a little "prologue loop" to spread things out a little and make it entertaining at the start.

Really from our staging area, the first clearing on Henry Clay Rd-
Take Road Side Trail to the Pond access road.
Turn right down the access road, then almost immediately turn left down the old logging road.
Follow this till it turns to trail, then opens back up, then hang a hard right, if you don't make that turn the trail/road dead ends, turn around and proceed down.
Down till you hit Clay Run Rd then Trail to the left at the bottom.
Take this down towards the Henry Clay Furnace.
Take a left before the bridge, then bear left up Rattlesnake/Rhododendron Trail.
Most of the way up, turn right, go across the stream, go up the switch back and then follow the sign for Picnic Area to the left and up.
This takes you toward Rock City.
Go to the Shelter, then turn right into Rock City and all the Rhododendron. Follow it through the rocks and out the other side.
Now you're on Ridge Trail, take it bearing left and down, down, down.
At the bottom you'll T into Mont Chateau, bear to the right and go up the trail/stream bed.
At end you cross the bridge and then turn right towards Henry Clay Furnace.
This time near the Furnace bear to the left (there may be 10 yards of 2-way traffic right before the bridge). Go across the bridge, follow the trail around to the right of the furnace and then to the left up the little hill, then right onto the Rail Grade/Advanced Ski Trail.
Follow this the whole up up to right near the Henry Clay Rd/Staging area.
Beginners will go to the road and finish.

Here's the Sport/Expert additional loop-
Coops Sport/Expert loop

Sports and Experts will turn right down the Advanced Ski Trail, cross the bridge, bear to the left and start heading up.
This takes you to the Reservoir Trail, where we'll bear left at the Rock Cairn, go to the end, across the dam, then up the service road.
Near the top you'll once again turn down that service road and continue as you did the first lap.

There may be some changes to the Expert course.
Mostly it would be a different "2nd lap".
I'm not going to guarantee anything. Time will tell, stay tuned, keep a firm hand on the rudder, stay the course.

Sports will finish that lap and be done. I call that 2 laps.
Experts will finish that lap and then do it again. I call that 3 laps of joyful rocks.

Mostly we only do the Road Side Trail once. I want to limit the time/exposure we have on that trail as it gets used a lot by hikers and rec cyclists.
Also they have started logging on the Scott's Run side again, and we're just not going to go there this year.
No road crossings. After the first road at the start there is NO PAVEMENT on the course, NONE. Just rocks. We like rocks, that's why we like Coopers.

Does that make any sense?
Whew.
